Welcome to the website of the International Conference on Civic Education. In 2010, the Conference will be held at the Orlando, FL Hilton at Walt Disney World from Thursday, November 11th through through Saturday, November 13th. The preliminary program for the 2010 conference is available here.

About the Conference. For a country to flourish and grow, and for a democracy to sustain liberty and justice, the next generation of citizens must acquire the civic skills, abilities and commitments to govern. This interdisciplinary conference will draw together researchers and practitioners, including:

The keynote speech will be given by Vermont Secretary of State Deb Markowitz, "The Future of Civics Education for the Connected Generation." Previous Keynote speakers include: Peter Levine, CIRCLE, Richard Niemi, University of Rochester, Carolyn Pereira, Constitutional Rights Foundation, Trey Grayson, Kentucky Secretary of State.

Participants are welcome to submit a paper proposal to present either a 30-minute paper presentation, or to jointly present a 90-minumte colloquium session. We try to organize similar presentations in tracks throughout the conference. The type of papers presented include: research presented (qualitative or quantitative), to theoretical articles, as well as papers prepared by practitioners that deal with application, best practices, and case studies.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the meeting, presenters are able to receive feedback from people from a different academic discipline, often bringing up ideas or concepts that might otherwise be overlooked in a discipline specific silo. Since it is a presenter’s conference, we strongly encourage people to attend the different sessions throughout the conference. The conference registration fee includes a plated lunch each day of the conference, as well as an opening night reception, providing attendees an opportunity to meet and get to know each other.  Conference registration is lower if you stay in the conference hotel. See the Conference Registration form for prices, which start at $300 for students and $375 for faculty/professionals. All presenters must pre-register.

These conferences are now held annually, in cities in North America. Previous conferences have been held in New Orleans, Orlando, Vancouver, and Nashville. Future meetings are scheduled for Las Vegas and New Orleans.
